This 1959 Mercedes-Benz 220SE is one of 1,112 cabriolets produced with Bosch mechanical fuel injection between 1958 and 1960. The car was refurbished in a multi-year project completed in 2009 and was acquired by the owner in 2022. It is finished in Strawberry Metallic over Parchment leather and is powered by a 2.2-liter M127 inline-six paired with a column-shifted four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a beige convertible soft top, fog lights, 13? steel wheels with full covers, a wood dashboard, Bilstein shocks, a Blaupunkt AM/FM radio, an under-dash Sanyo AM/FM/CD/cassette receiver, and a heater. The oil was changed in preparation for the sale, and a safety inspection was performed. This Ponton is now offered on dealer consignment at no reserve in California as part of The LeVett Collection with service records, a data card copy, manufacturer’s literature, refurbishment photographs, and a clean Arizona title.

The 220SE model was introduced in late 1958 as the final evolution of the Ponton platform’s six-cylinder variants. This example left the factory finished in white and is now finished in Strawberry Metallic. The beige soft top has been replaced, and exterior equipment includes fog lights, fender-mounted turn signals, dual side mirrors, a fender-mounted antenna, flared quarter panels, a key-locked fuel filler door, chrome trim, and wrap-around bumpers with overriders. A multi-page article featuring this car was published in the April 2019 edition of The Star magazine, photos of which can be viewed in the gallery.

Steel 13? wheels feature slotted chrome covers with body-color centers and are mounted with 185/80 Firestone FR380 whitewall tires. Bilstein shocks are fitted. The car was factory equipped with a double-wishbone front and single-joint rear axle suspension with coil springs, and stopping power is provided by vacuum-boosted hydraulic drums.

The interior was originally trimmed in blue leather, and it was reupholstered in Parchment leather with red piping during the build. Interior appointments include wood trim, front vent windows, door map pockets, a VDO analog clock, and a heater. A Blaupunkt AM/FM radio is fitted in the dashboard, while a Sanyo AM/FM/CD/cassette receiver is mounted in an enclosure below. The seller notes the car achieved an Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) National First Prize Award as well as an award at the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance.

The two-spoke steering wheel features a chrome horn ring and frames VDO instrumentation consisting of a horizontal-sweep 110-mph speedometer, a trip odometer, and gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 89k miles, approximately 1k of which were added under current ownership.
