The Flaminia body style proved to be successful in its run from 1957-1969. Following the stunning Aurelia, it borrowed some design and engineering cues, creating a following of its own.

In 1963, Lancia introduced the GTL on a lengthened 2+2 platform. The GTL wheelbase was lengthened over the GT model and 70-mm increase in height, which lends the GTL an airier greenhouse. The later GTL model featured a modern unequal-length double-wishbone front suspension.

Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera of Milan took over the coachwork duties for both the GT GTL and convertible models, creating a pleasingly penned design with a construction of aluminum panels over a frame of thin steel tubes. Slightly over-engineered to our benefit with its rear-mounted transaxle, the Flaminia showcases great handling and overall refinement versus other Italian cars of its time.

The Flaminia GTL engine was enlarged and updated with the DeVirgilia-designed the 2.8-litre 3C, with triple Weber double-downdraft carburetors giving 150 bhp. With its sophistication and notable build quality, the GTL 2.8 3C is a grand tourer appreciated by many collectors around the world.

What we know is that this Flaminia GTL, chassis no. 1023, was sold to a Mr. Jeff Burk who had ownership from 1975 through 2002. It was then passed on to Lancia enthusiast and avid American Lancia Club member, Bill Stebbins. Bill, who held roles such as technical advisor and club magazine production and mailing advisor, drove the car across the United States on a few occasions, traveling for fun and to the annual Lancia meets. His journeys were documented in several issues of the Lancia Club newsletter as well as in Hemmings Motor News. Pictures in the gallery of such adventures.

Under Bill’s guidance, the car was painted in the current two-tone configuration with master Lancia restorer Jim Simpson. The car was stripped, painted and interior refinished right before the car was sold to the current owner.

Now living in the Monterey Bay, S/N 1023 has lived a charmed life, jaunting around Pebble Beach, Carmel and Monterey frequently and with much care. It is accompanied by its original owner’s manual, shop manuals and some service documentation. Built for covering long distances in comfort and style, this is a superbly usable car.

In a road test in the April issue of Car and Driver in 1964, the writer stated: "The outstanding feature of the Flaminia is its ability to cruise effortlessly at 100 mph." The story continues: "The seats are extremely comfortable, both in town and on the autostrada, and the combination of longer-than-average fore-and-aft travel, finely adjustable backrests and a telescopic steering column should make it possible for anyone to find a suitable driving position; this range of adjustment also helps the driver to offset the fatigue of a set position on a long run."

We have also scanned copies of the club magazines. One issue features the car in two pictures and the other is an article that the third owner wrote about his trip to Palm Springs. The pictures are fantastic and worth a look!

Here is another article that was written about the car in Hemmings 2006
