This 1962 MGA 1600 is a Mark II coupe that has reportedly spent the past 34 years with its current owner near Monterey, California. The car is finished in red over a black leather interior and is powered by a 1,622cc B-series inline-four paired with a four-speed manual gearbox. Prior to the current owner’s purchase in 1986, the car is said to have received a refresh that included repainting the body, rebuilding the engine and transmission, reupholstering the interior, and rebuilding the suspension. Service performed in February 2020 included repairing the thermostat and the choke cable. This MGA fixed-head coupe is now offered on dealer consignment with service records, a knock-off hammer, and a clean California title in the current owner’s name.

Prior to the current owner’s purchase, the car was reportedly taken down to bare metal and resprayed in Chariot Red lacquer paint. An undercoating was also applied in the 1980s, and a replacement windshield, window seals, moldings, Euro-spec lighting, stainless trim, and wood floorboards were installed at that time. Chrome-finished 14? wire wheels feature two-eared knock-offs and wear Michelin Harmony tires. The mechanical refresh reportedly included an overhaul of the suspension and braking systems, with installation of remanufactured shocks and rebuilt hydraulics.

The 1980s refresh of the interior reportedly included installing replacement black leather seat covers with red piping as well as a replacement dash pad, headliner, and wool carpeting. The window regulators and door latches are said to have been rebuilt, a Blaupunkt Frankfurt AM/FM radio was installed, and sound deadening was added to the floors and firewall.

Instrumentation consists of a 100-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for fuel level and water temperature. The speedometer and tachometer were reportedly rebuilt in 1986. The five-digit odometer shows 18k miles, of which approximately 5k have been added since the mid-1980s; true mileage is unknown.

The 1,622cc BMC B-series inline-four and the four-speed manual transmission were reportedly rebuilt under previous ownership. A mechanical refresh performed just prior to the current owner’s purchase of the car included rebuilding the generator, starter, and carburetors as well as installing a finned-aluminum valve cover and replacing the wiring harnesses. The engine mounts, hoses, belts, and battery are said to have been recently replaced, and the choke cable and the thermostat were repaired by Classic Coachworks of Monterey, California in February 2020.

A fifth wire wheel serves as a spare, and Clarion speakers have been installed in the trunk bulkhead. A lead knock-off hammer is included in the sale.An Abarth exhaust system has been added. A photo of the underside of the car is provided.
