Vehicle Overview

Ended on Bring a Trailer Auctions : 1964 Alfa Romeo 2600 Spider

This 1964 Alfa Romeo 2600 Spider was reportedly sold new in California and spent time in Ohio before it was acquired by the current owner as a project in 2003. The ensuing refurbishment was completed in the 2010s. The car is finished in silver with a red soft top over a black leather interior, and power comes from a 2,584cc DOHC inline-six paired with a five-speed manual gearbox. This 2600 Spider is now offered on dealer consignment with an owner’s manual, a tool kit, a burgundy hardtop and stand, refurbishment records, and a clean California title in the owner’s name.

Only 2,255 examples of the Touring-bodied 2600 Spider were produced between 1962 and 1965, and this example received new rocker panels, jack points, and lower body sills during the 2010s refurbishment before being repainted in Alfa Romeo Silver Metallic. Exterior brightwork was re-chromed, and a new outer grille surround, headlight rings, turn signal and taillight lenses, rear bumper, and badges were installed along with new body and window seals.

The red soft top with a plastic rear window was fitted during the refurbishment, and a burgundy hardtop is included in the sale and can be seen up close in the gallery below. The painted steel wheels are fitted with chrome Alfa Romeo hubcaps and are mounted with Michelin X Radial 165R400 tires. New wheel bearings, brake pads, and brake lines were installed during current ownership.

The cockpit features front bucket seats and a rear bench that were retrimmed in black leather upholstery during the refurbishment. Black leather extends to the door panels as well as the rear cargo area and matches the leather tonneau cover. The floors are lined with Woolton burgundy wool carpeting, and replacement seat foam and window runners were installed during current ownership.

The three-spoke steering wheel frames Veglia instrumentation including a 150-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for coolant and oil temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. 68k miles are shown on the five-digit odometer, 1k of which has reportedly been added since the refurbishment. Total mileage is unknown.

The 2.6-liter DOHC inline-six was factory rated at 145 horsepower and is equipped with triple Weber carburetors. An engine rebuild performed during current ownership reportedly included new pistons, bearings, timing chains, valves, guides, and gaskets. Additional work is said to have included the installation of a new voltage regulator as well as radiator and intake hoses and clamps.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. The clutch and pressure plate were replaced during the refurbishment. A driving video is viewable below.
