Vehicle Overview
Ended on Bring a Trailer Auctions : 1986 Porsche 944 Rothmans Challenge Race Car This Porsche 944 was manufactured in December 1985 as one of an estimated 31 produced for the Rothmans Porsche 944 Challenge series in Canada. It was initially sold via Auto Haus Fort Garry in Winnipeg to Ray Coffey, who campaigned it in the series during the 1986 and 1987 seasons. The car later changed hands and has since been entered in NASA 944-Spec Series events as well as the Canadian Historic Grand Prix in 2013. Power is supplied by a 2.5-liter inline-four mated to a rear-mounted five-speed manual transaxle with a limited-slip differential. The car is finished in Pastel Beige with a number 57 Rothmans livery and is further equipped with 16? Fuchs wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, a rear spoiler, a roll cage, and a Sparco driver’s seat. The current owner purchased the vehicle in 2026 and subsequently imported it to the United States. This 944 Rothmans Challenge is now offered on consignment by Mohr Imports, a BaT Local Partner, as part of their Monterey Car Week Collection with manufacturer’s literature, original purchase paperwork, a CASC log book, and a bill of sale. Manufactured in Weissach, Germany, the 944 Challenge was developed for use in Porsche’s single-make race series and received a number of weight-savings measures, including the omission of a sunroof, air conditioning, power steering, undercoating, and power windows. This example left the factory in Pastel Beige (LM1N) and retains a number 57 Rothmans livery. Exterior details include cooling ducts in lieu of fog lamps along with pop-up headlights, tow hooks, rear window straps, and a rear spoiler. The car is not equipped with door windows. The 16? Fuchs wheels feature black centers and are mounted with Hoosier R7 slicks that measure 225/60 up front and 245/45 out back. Braking is handled by power-assisted ventilated discs with Hawk pads. The stripped cockpit houses a Sparco fixed-back driver’s seat as well as a factory passenger’s seat trimmed in black upholstery with Porsche script, and both harnesses are date-expired. The roll cage incorporates side bars, and additional equipment includes a black dash and center console as well as a window net and an electric shut-off switch. The four-spoke steering wheel is wrapped in leather and fronts a 265-km/h speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for coolant temperature, fuel level, boost, oil pressure, and voltage. The six-digit odometer shows 26k kilometers (~16k miles). The water-cooled 2.5-liter M44 inline-four sends power to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential. Additional underside images are presented in the gallery below. Original purchase paperwork will accompany the car along with a CASC log book and manufacturer’s literature. Decoding the options sticker reveals the following information: The car does not have a title, as it is intended for track use only. It is being sold on a bill of sale.
