This 1960 Mercedes-Benz 220SE cabriolet has been refinished in ivory over burgundy leather and is powered by a fuel-injected 2.2-liter inline-six paired with a column-shifted four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a brown soft top, 13? steel wheels with covers, drum brakes, wood interior trim, VDO gauges, and a Becker AM/FM radio. The car spent decades in Illinois, Iowa, and Indiana, and it was refurbished around 2003. The current owner acquired the vehicle in 2020, and since that time the underside has been refinished and the suspension, brakes, and interior have been refreshed. This Mercedes Ponton is now offered on dealer consignment with a four-piece luggage set, refurbishment photos, decades of service records, a tool kit, a jack, an owner’s manual, manufacturer’s literature, and a California title.

The car is said to have been delivered new in White (DB05) and refinished in Light Ivory (658) in 2003 by LaVine Restorations of Nappanee, Indiana. Features include a brown convertible top as well as chrome-finished bumpers, rocker-panel and wheel-arch trim, and side moldings.

Steel 13? wheels wear chrome-finished covers with body-matching centers, and they were mounted with 185/80 Maxxis MA-1 whitewall tires in 2020. Each corner is equipped with drum brakes and coil springs. The suspension and the brakes were refinished since 2020, as was the underside. In 2020 the brake fluid was flushed and the chassis was greased, and the springs were replaced in 2021.

The interior features burgundy leather upholstery, with matching door panels and rear trim. The brown carpeting is protected by rubber liners under patterned mats, and burl wood trim accents the door panels and the dashboard, which houses a Becker Mexico AM/FM radio, an ashtray, and a VDO clock that was rebuilt with a quartz movement.

The 2.2-liter inline-six is equipped with fuel injection. An electronic ignition was installed in February 2021 by Water Star Motors of Santa Cruz, California, and the same shop inspected the fuel-injection system in March 2021.

Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a column-shifted four-speed manual transmission.

Photos showing the car during its 2003 refurbishment are displayed in the auction details.

A four-piece tan Karl Baisch luggage set with tartan linings will accompany the vehicle along with a tool kit, a jack, an owner’s manual, and manufacturer’s literature. Six awards that the car earned in 2021 also are noted in the gallery.

The chassis number on the car is 128030-10-9502078, but the VIN listed on the California title does not include the middle “10” segment.
