Vehicle Overview

We’re pleased to announce that MohrImports, a regular BaT seller and Local Partner, will be representing eight lots selected from the fleet of Monterey Touring Vehicles, a classic car rental service operating out of Monterey, California. Cars on offer span a wide range of types, from a humble Citroën 2CV to an opulent Bentley Turbo RL, all of which are left-hand drive. Each listing in the Monterey Touring Vehicles Collection will be offered at no reserve.

The auctions will begin on Monday, May 1, and will continue to go live in the following days. This announcement will serve as a preview of the vehicles on offer and will also be updated with links to the live auctions once they have begun.

The most driver-focused offerings in the collection are all roadsters, two from Japan and one from Britain. The 1964 Datsun 1500 Fairlady roadster is a BaT alumni car that last traded here in 2017 and features a unique four-place configuration with twin jump seats mounted in place of the rear parcel shelf. The Nissan 300ZX convertible is finished in Aspen Gold Metallic over tan leather and is powered by a VG30ET V6 engine, which was fitted with a single Garrett turbocharger from the factory.

The aforementioned British entry is a Triumph TR8 convertible powered by a 3.5-liter Rover V8 that has been converted to a single-carburetor induction setup. Its gold paint is covered by a metallic blue vinyl wrap, and its tan vinyl interior features plaid cloth inserts on the seats and doors.

Luxury cars in the collection include two wedding-ready British saloons and a classic American land yacht. The Jaguar Mark IX dates from 1959 and is appointed with a sunroof, Lucas driving lamps, four-wheel disc brakes, power steering, rear picnic tables, and twin bench seats trimmed in black leather upholstery. The 1992 Bentley Turbo RL is a long-wheelbase variant finished in white over tan Connolly leather and received a tune-up, a new timing belt, and service to its self-leveling rear suspension system in March 2022.

The 1971 Cadillac Fleetwood Eldorado convertible is a truly massive droptop, measuring just over 221? overall, and is powered by Cadillac’s venerable 500ci V8.

The final two vehicles in the collection are separated by nearly 30 years, but are similarly spartan in character. The Brooks Stevens-designed Willys-Overland Jeepster was acquired by Monterey Touring Vehicles on BaT in 2017 and has since received a transmission overhaul, new wheels, and other service. The lone French car in the collection is a 1978 Citroën 2CV6 from the model’s 30th year of production. It is finished in beige with a black roll-back top and black vinyl upholstery, and received a tuneup, a new muffler, brake work, and other maintenance during its time with the rental fleet.

The full list of included vehicles can be found below, and all are offered at no reserve. We’re looking forward to placing these vehicles with new owners, and we’ll be updating this post with links to individual auctions as each lot goes live.
