This Jaguar C-Type re-creation was built by Proteus Sports and Racing Cars of Henley, England, and is said to have been assembled by Jaguar racing specialist Don Law in 1994 for Staffordshire pottery magnate Gerald Tams. The car later underwent a mechanical refresh that included the addition of triple Weber carburetors to its 3.8-liter XK inline-six before being sold to its previous owner, who subsequently commissioned a repaint of the aluminum body in British Racing Green. Purchased by its current owner in 2013, the car also features a four-speed manual transmission, four-wheel Dunlop disc brakes, independent suspension with coilover shock absorbers, 16” painted wire wheels, and fixed-back bucket seats upholstered in red leather. This Proteus C-Type re-creation is now offered on dealer consignment as part of the Mohr Imports Car Week Collection: Postcards from Monterey with invoices from the last 12 years, model-related literature, a collection of spare parts, and a clean California title identifying it as a 1965 Jaguar.

Proteus Jaguar C-Type Re-Creation

Proteus Cars Ltd. began building re-creations of Jaguar’s two-time Le Mans-winning C-Type in the 1980s utilizing a proprietary tube chassis and alloy center tub inspired by the factory cars combined with updated Jaguar-sourced suspension components. While fiberglass bodywork was standard, this example features aluminum front and rear clamshells that were optional at the time of the car’s construction.

The body was repainted in British Racing Green prior to the current owner’s purchase, and various imperfections in the finish are shown up close in the photo gallery below. Features include faired-in headlights, a central driving light mounted behind the grille, a louvered hood with leather retention straps, a plexiglass windshield ahead of dual Brooklands-style windscreens, a driver-side door, side-pipe exhaust with dual outlets, and a Monza-style fuel-filler cap.

Silver-painted wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs and are wrapped in 6.00-16 Blockley tires, while a spare is housed in a compartment at the rear of the car. Stopping is handled by Dunlop disc brakes at each corner.

The right-hand-drive cockpit houses a pair of fixed-back bucket seats trimmed in red leather with color-matched trim over the side panels and black upholstery over the center tunnel. Additional features include black rubber floor mats, latch-and-link lap belts, a dashboard-mounted rearview mirror and UK tax disc holder, and a sill-mounted fire extinguisher. Areas of wear are exhibited on various interior painted surfaces.

The three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer, a reverse-sweep tachometer, and gauges monitoring oil pressure, coolant temperature, fuel level, and amperage. The five-digit odometer shows 23k miles, which the selling dealer states is not accurate. Total mileage is unknown.

The 3.8-liter XK inline-six was fitted with triple Weber 45 DCOE carburetors with intake trumpets under prior ownership. Additional features include an electric cooling fan and three-into-one exhaust headers. Service in October 2024 included replacement of the distributor and spark plugs, an oil change, and adjustment of the ignition timing and carburetors.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission and a Salisbury rear end. Suspension incorporates a double-wishbone front setup and a solid rear axle with torsion bars and a Panhard rod. Adjustable coilover shock absorbers are utilized at each corner.
