This 1949 Chevrolet 3100 is a half-ton pickup that is powered by a 235ci inline-six linked to a column-shifted three-speed manual transmission. The truck was refurbished before it was acquired by its current owner on BaT in January 2021, and it is finished in black over brown vinyl upholstery. Equipment includes a 12-volt electrical system, 16? wheels, running boards, chrome bumpers, and wood cargo bed slats and side rails. Previously listed on BaT in March 2023, this 3100 pickup is now offered on dealer consignment at no reserve with manufacturer’s literature, promotional material, California Historical Vehicle license plates, and a clean California title.
The truck was repainted in black under prior ownership and features running boards, chrome-finished bumpers, and wood bed slats and side rails. A paint bubble below the right mirror, blemishes on the right running board, and flaws on the right-front fender are shown in the gallery below.
Body-color 16? steel wheels wear polished hubcaps and are mounted with 6.00-16? Firestone Deluxe Champion whitewall tires that show 2016 production date codes. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel drum brakes, which are said to have been overhauled under prior ownership along with the suspension.
The cab is finished in brown and features a bench seat and door panel inserts trimmed in color-coordinated vinyl. The truck is equipped with a heater, and a black rubber mat lines the floor. The selling dealer notes that the left-side door panel adhesive is peeling.
Instrumentation consists of an 80-mph speedometer and a combination gauge. The selling dealer notes that the speedometer fluctuates while driving, and a March 2023 service invoice notes that the cable is noisy. The battery gauge is not working. The five-digit odometer shows 247 miles, approximately 50 of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The 235ci inline-six is said to have been overhauled under previous ownership and features hydraulic camshaft lifters and a 12-volt electrical system.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a column-shifted three-speed manual transmission. Transmission leaks are noted at the shift shaft seal and the driveshaft swivel.
Decoding the VIN on the replacement chassis plate provides the following information:
- 20 – Los Angeles assembly plant
- G – 1949 Model year
- P – 3100 Series, 1/2-ton pickup, 116? wheelbase
- F – June production month
- 5104 – Production sequence
A pair of California Historical Vehicle license plates accompany the truck along with manufacturer’s literature and promotional material.
