Vehicle Overview
Ended Sunday, August 10th on Bring a Trailer Auctions : 36-Years-Owned 1953 Allard K3 This 1953 Allard K3 is one of 63 aluminum-bodied roadsters produced over a three-year span, and it is powered by a 331ci Cadillac V8 linked to a three-speed automatic transmission. Acquired by the current owner in 1989, the car was refurbished over two decades ago. The car is finished in cream over red leather and rides on a steel chassis with an independent coil-spring suspension, a de Dion rear end, front disc brakes, and 16” wheels, and the three-passenger cabin offers a Bluemel’s Brooklands steering wheel, an engine-turned instrument bezel, and Smiths gauges. This K3 is now offered as part of the Mohr Imports’ Monterey Car Week collection on dealer consignment with a clean California title. Introduced in 1952, the K3 featured aluminum bodywork mounted to a steel chassis with a 100” wheelbase. A total of 63 were built before production ended in 1954. Most were shipped to the US without an engine, with buyers selecting the desired powerplant after arrival. The car is finished in cream and was repainted in 2004 following the completion of body work. Details include a three-bar grille, a louvered hood, a split windshield, round side mirrors, LED headlight bulbs, and blue-dot taillights. Chipped paint on the left-rear quarter panel and flaws on the trunk are noted, and the right-side soft top latch is broken. Discoloration on the glass is shown up close in the image gallery below. Red-finished 16” steel wheels wear polished hubcaps and trim rings and are wrapped in 6.00” Excelsior Stahl Sport Radial tires. The car rides on coil springs all around with a split front axle and a de Dion rear end, while braking is handled by front discs and inboard-mounted rear drums. The chassis was lubricated and the brake fluid was flushed in July 2025. The three-abreast bench seat is trimmed in red leather that extends to the dashboard and door panels. Black lap belts are provided. The Bluemel’s Brooklands steering wheel sits ahead of an engine-turned bezel housing Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 150-mph speedometer with an inset clock, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges in addition to an AutoMeter voltmeter. The five-digit odometer shows 3,800 miles, which is said to represent the distance driven under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown. The trunk is trimmed to complement the cabin and houses a full-size spare. The 331ci Cadillac V8 is equipped with a single carburetor, a dual exhaust system, and a chrome air cleaner lid and valve covers. The electrical system has been converted to 12-volt operation, and the valve cover gaskets were replaced in 2021. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a replacement three-speed automatic transmission. Chassis number K33169 is shown above. The California title lists the VIN as 9S2063, which appears on an identification plate mounted to the left frame rail. Historical photos of the car are presented in the gallery.
