1971 Ford Mustang Boss 351
This 1971 Ford Mustang Boss 351 is in Light Pewter Metallic with Black and has LESS THAN 16k miles. In 1971 buyers had the choice of standard interior or upgraded Mach 1 interior; the Boss 351 was a high-performance model and most owners wanted base-model interiors; that is, no power windows, etc. Only 1,806 Boss 351 Mustangs were produced. By comparison, just under 10,000 Boss 302 Mustangs were produced during their two-year run in 1969 and 1970. The Boss 351 was only produced for one year, 1971. The Boss line represented limited-production high-performance versions of it's Mustangs for racing support, principally in Trans Am and NASCAR. The Boss model came into being when Trans Am rules required car manufacturers to actually produce streetable versions of their race cars, at least in minimum numbers. Ford discontinued the Boss line entirely in 1971 because it removed itself from corporate sponsorship in racing. For the 1971 Ford Mustang line-up, the Boss 351 was the top model. In descending order of performance for the fastback version (Ford called its fastback for that year a “Sportsroof”): Boss 351, Mach 1, Sportsroof (i.e., the base model fastback). Boss 351 came standard with Boss 351 engine, performance suspension (an option that year), wide-ratio four speed (automatics not allowed), no air conditioning, and a 3.91 geared traction-loc rear end. Any other model could be ordered with a variety of engine choices, transmissions, rear-end gearing, and convenience features. Front and rear spoilers were standard and this 351 has the originals. This car was sold new at Robbins Motor Co in Mercer, Pennsylvania. The first owner repainted it black with psychedelic artwork and used it as a show car. He towed it to events and did not drive it much. The second owner repainted it in it's original factory color, Light Pewter Metallic, during the early-to-mid 70s using factory correct paint techniques of that era. He drove the car most of the mileage now shown on the odometer. The third owner was a collector in Virginia and just kept it in storage with little to no driving. The fourth owner purchased it in 1998 in Virginia and only drove it several hundred miles before storing it until July 2014. This car, unlike most Boss 351 Mustangs, was never raced.MSRP New $3,689.68Factory options incude:- BSW Tires/Raised White Letters- Rim Blow-Deluxe Strg wheel- Sport Deck Rear Seat- AM Radio- Console- Tinted Glass- Complete- Sports Wheel CoversOriginal wheels and tires included with the sale.
